FlyKnight - A Comprehensive Handbook
A detailed guide to fishing in FlyKnight — Complete with a compendium of all 11 fish available in the game, what they can do for you, and where you can find them.
Getting Started
So you want to learn to fish?
Well first you'll need to get a rod!
At the tail end of the game's tutorial sequence, you will arrive at the Peaceful Lake Campfire.

Here you can find an NPC named "Fisherbug" — talk to him and accept his offer of a spare fishing rod, before picking it up and equipping it.

NOTE: Make sure you do this BEFORE entering the Caves, as once you have entered the caves you cannot return to the Peaceful Lake, and you will be locked out of getting the fishing rod if you haven't already done so.
Learning the Mechanics
The fishing mechanics of FlyKnight are relatively straightforward, but in the interest of being as comprehensive as possible, I'll quickly run through them here.
(Note: when describing any controls I will be referring to the default key binds)
The Basics:
With your fishing rod equipped, you can press [5] to wield it at any time.
When you're ready to start fishing, simply hold down the Left Mouse Button and release when you would like to cast — the orange arrows that appear on the water as you hold the Left Mouse Button will give you an idea of where your bobber will end up.
Once your line has been cast you have two primary options:
- Right Mouse Button — Hold this down to gradually reel in your line.
- Left Mouse Button — This will temporarily throw your bobber into the air, in which time you can hold down the Right Mouse Button to reel in your line much faster than usual.
Catching Fish:
While they are in the water, each fish will be marked by a small arrow hovering above them (with each fish having their own corresponding colour of arrow).
In order to catch a fish, you first need to cast your line near them and wait for the bobber to catch their attention. If it seems like the fish isn't noticing your bobber, try slightly reeling it in once or twice (or entirely recasting to get the bobber closer to them).
You'll know you've caught a fish's attention once it starts nibbling at your bobber. Typically a fish will nibble a few times, before biting down on the hook proper (as indicated by a distinct sound cue and splash visual).
Once the fish has latched onto your hook, make sure to start reeling in your line as soon as possible — if you are too late (or stop reeling for too long) the fish will get away.
From that point onward just keep reeling in the fish until you pull it out of the water, but make sure to pay attention to your stamina bar. If your stamina runs out while reeling, the fish will start pulling you forward at the same time, which can be trouble if you are fishing close to the water's edge.
Fish Size & Modifiers:
Upon catching any fish, you'll likely notice that it's size is listed (and given a rating).
There is a point to this system beyond competing with your friends to see who can land the biggest catch, however.

Next to the listed "Duration" or "Potency" of any consumable fish, you can find an additional green number.
This number denotes a bonus increase in said Duration or Potency, which scales with the size of each fish.
As a rule of thumb, Bigger fish = Greater increases.
The Fish Barrel:
In the same vein as your Personal Stash Chest, the Fish Barrel is simply a place to store spare consumable fish that you don't want (or can't fit) in your inventory.

Supplementing the 5 dedicated slots in your inventory, the Fish Barrel can fit up to 21 consumable fish at a time.
If you happen to catch a consumable fish while all 5 slots in your inventory are already full, you will be able to send the fish straight to your Fish Barrel instead (granted there is room for it there).
